Trumpeter and bandleader Ambrose Akinmusire is one of the leaders of a new generation of artists that is able to reach older fans of traditional jazz as well as today's youth. The 34-year-old American, who was discovered by saxophonist Steve Coleman, knows how to present a perfect musical mix full of unpredictable jazz elements and trusted pop influences.


In 2014 Akinmusire won the Paul Acket Award at the North Sea Jazz Festival. He learned to play from greats like Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter and Terence Blanchard and has worked with, among others, Esperanza Spalding, Kendrick Lamar and Jason Moran who produced his debut album When The Heart Emerges Glistening (2011).
